Maria Siegel

About

I’m Maria Siegel, Founder and Owner of Goldenrod Place Interiors and the Blog that supports it.  To be honest, I have been designing and organizing my spaces since I was a kid.  I am, and always have been, very affected by my physical surroundings.  It’s always been important to me to feel inspired, comforted, refreshed by my home.  My goal as a professional is to create environments that illicit the same emotions for my clients.

Some words that describe my aesthetic are: modern, clean, creative, light, calming and organic.  I also believe in making spaces feel personal, so that the unique personality of the inhabitants of a home shine through. This might mean incorporating children’s art into the design or displaying collected artifacts from world travels, or it could mean creating a gallery wall of family photos or curated art.  In the end, the overall design tells the story of the unique individuals that live in that particular space.

The Blog

The Goldenrod Place blog is a place for inspiration, sharing tips, and helping others discover the joys of creating a home.  I post articles weekly, so there’s always something new. The subjects of posts are varied and can be about home design inspiration, a local artist’s work,  lighting selections, or something in between. Friday installments are entitled, “Friday Finds,” because I share things I’ve discovered locally or elsewhere that I think readers will enjoy.  My “finds” are also varied – they can be about a local gallery, an online resource related to home organization/design, or a store with interesting items for the home.

My professional background and training is in education.  I received my Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Michigan State University and my Masters from the University of Maryland, College Park, summa cum laude.

When not working, I enjoy traveling with my husband and two daughters.  I am also a big cook and love to have friends and family over for festive meals.  At the end of the day, if I have any energy left, you’ll find me curled up with a good novel or planning our family’s next adventure.
